Cardiff University to drop subjects including music

Such sad news. In this world where we no longer have the funding to attract foreign students, numbers are plummeting according to the Guardian. On Radio 4’s This Morning, Professor Wendy Larner said that the music school would go as there were ‘two music schools in Cardiff’. This completely fails to understand the deep seated difference between academic excellence provided at top Universities such as Cardiff and elite musical performance provided by conservatoires. These are united in music, but fundamentally different in so many ways. Potential academic music students will simply look to other University courses. This is a loss for Wales – the Land of Song!
